The Edna Aizenberg Research Award was established in 2018 in honor of longtime LAJSA member and leader, Dr. Edna Aizenberg. The award is intended to encourage and support research in the field of Latin American Jewish Studies, broadly defined. A single award will be granted annually.
Award Amount: US $2000.00
Eligibility: Eligible applicants for the award are doctoral candidates working on their dissertation or recent PhD recipients (within five years) working on their first sole-authored scholarly monograph, which must be new and different research than the dissertation. Applicants must be current members of LAJSA (2026 membership dues paid) at the time of application.

Application: Applications shall consist of the following six (6) items.
- A cover sheet with the applicant’s name, title of the proposed research project, institutional affiliation, and contact information.
- Curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages).
- Project description: Provide a brief narrative summary that highlights the significance of the proposed research project for scholars within your own discipline as well as for a broad audience. The narrative should clearly explain why your project is important, original, or innovative and make explicit how your work will be relevant for your discipline and the field of Latin American Jewish Studies (maximum 1,000 words).
- Bibliography of works that provides the critical framework of the proposed project (maximum 2 pages).
- Plan/methodology and timeline: Detail concrete activities to be undertaken (e.g. fieldwork, archival research, data collection and analysis, etc.). Be specific in explaining how you will carry out your research and provide a timeline for completion (maximum 500 words).
- Budget: Provide an itemized budget for how the award funds will be expended and provide documentation of expenses to the extent possible. Funds may not be used for publication subvention costs.

Deadline: Applications are due by May 1, 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Review Process: Applications will be reviewed by a three-member panel selected by the Co-Presidents of LAJSA in consultation with the Board of Directors.
Notification/announcement: The recipient will be notified personally no later than June 15th, 2026 and the award will be officially announced on the LAJSA website, list-serve, and social media.
