XXII LAJSA INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2027
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Latin American Jewish Studies Association (LAJSA) invites you to participate in its 22nd International Research Conference, to be held in person on July 7–9, 2027, at the UTE university in Quito, Ecuador.
Every two years LAJSA holds its International Research Conference to bring together scholars from multiple disciplines and geographical regions whose work focuses on the lives, languages, experiences, cultural production, and representations of and by Jews in and from Latin America and the Caribbean. Our conferences provide a stimulating and collegial environment for presenting research and creating lasting transnational networks among participants. Graduate students working on Latin American and Caribbean Jewish topics are especially encouraged to apply.
LAJSA will provide a limited number of Travel Awards to enable the participation of students and independent and junior scholars with innovative proposals and limited financial resources.
Information concerning travel grants, hotel accommodations at our Quito conference site, and conference fees will be announced separately.
Book and dissertation prizes: LAJSA will award book and dissertation prizes at the conference. The call for submissions will be circulated separately.
Book presentations: We encourage authors of books published since (but not presented at) the last LAJSA conference in July 2025 to submit proposals to present their books.
Deadline for proposal submissions: October 1st, 2026
Notification of conference proposal status: January 5th, 2027
Those interested in participating in the conference should submit their proposals using the Google form available at the following link:

Roundtables: This format is ideal for fostering interregional, interdisciplinary dialogue by focusing on a common topic. There will be a minimum of three participants and a maximum of six. If there are three, four, or five participants, a discussant may also be included. Roundtables usually begin with a brief introduction to the subject by the chair, followed by brief presentations by the participants (not to exceed 10 minutes each). Although we welcome individual presentations, please keep in mind that we strongly encourage submitting complete panel sessions to facilitate the organization of the conference. If you would like to present your work at the conference but you do not know others working on similar topics, we recommend that you circulate a message on the LAJSA listserv, lajsa-list@utlists.utexas.edu, to contact other potential presenters and to coordinate with them to submit the panel session proposal.
Book presentations: We invite authors who have published a book in 2025 or 2026 (and that was not presented at the 2025 LAJSA conference) to submit a proposal to present it during the conference. Each presentation should not exceed 7 minutes. To apply, please submit a proposal that includes:

A brief summary of the book.
