LAJSA is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Jacobo Kovadloff Travel Awards in support of members who will present scholarly work in person at the 21st International Research Conference, to be held July 3–4, 2025 at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia. Preference will be given to students and recent PhDs without long-term academic appointments.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Acceptance of the proposed paper by the conference program committee as part of a scholarly panel session. (Participation in a round table or the presentation of creative work is not eligible for travel award funding.)
- LAJSA membership dues must be current for 2025.
To apply please submit the following materials to the chair of the selection committee, YitzhakLewis (yml3@duke.edu), by January 31, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.
- A brief letter of application that includes:
o Your current position and academic affiliation
o Information about how the paper fits into your overall research agenda o Explanation of financial need - A documented estimate of travel costs (airfare and hotel accommodation)
Notification of award will be sent to applicants by February 28, 2025. (Note: The award sum may not cover the full cost of conference attendance. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for all other funding sources available to them.)
To collect the award please submit an invoice confirming payment for travel to the conference to the chair of the selection committee, Yitzhak Lewis (yml3@duke.edu), by May 31, 2025.
- Only flight and hotel invoices can be reimbursed.
- Late submissions will result in forfeiture of the award and the funds will be offered to
waitlisted applicants.
- Awards will be distributed at the conference as checks drawn on a U.S. bank or as PayPal
transfers. (Failure to attend the conference will result in forfeiture of the award.)
