A new scholarly volume, Imaginarios lingüísticos de la experiencia judía entre Europa y América Latina, has just been published and is now ready for distribution. Edited by Cynthia Gabbay, Valentina Litvan, and Brigitte Natanson, this book offers an in-depth examination of Jewish heritage and the cultural and linguistic exchanges between Latin America and Europe from the second half of the twentieth century to the present. This volume inaugurates the new book series Research in Latin American Jewish Studies (RLAJS), jointly developed through the collaboration of LAJSA (Latin American Jewish Studies Association) and the academic publishers De Gruyter–Brill.
Published in 2025 and written in Spanish, the volume explores the expression of Jewishness through language, focusing on the status of Jewish languages in Latin America, their contact with Spanish and Portuguese in their American variants, and the role of translation within Jewish intellectual life. Through a series of original contributions, the book sheds light on linguistic imaginaries as a key dimension of Jewish cultural experience across continents.
The editors worked on this volume within leading European academic institutions: Cynthia Gabbay (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin/REMELICE – Université d’Orléans), Valentina Litvan (Université de Lorraine), and Brigitte Natanson (REMELICE – Université d’Orléans).
